Community Service Essay :: Community Service Essays

Peoples lives are changed every day by their actions and experiences. This past summer, I participated in a community service project, an experience that opened my eyes in many ways. I was a volunteer at the County Memorial Hospital. In my time as a volunteer at the hospital, I was able to meet patients and staff members from all over the world and learn about their bread and plainlyter experiences. Listening to all of their stories has made me truly appreciate everything which I have. One experience that I entrust always remember is the day I was streak errands and had the prospect to meet a very special patient. She was a sweet woman who was originally from Mexico. We were having a friendly conversation when she asked me about why I chose to do community service at the hospital. I explained to her that I planned on majoring in the medical field one day and I was working on obtaining community service hours. We got to talking about the education systems in our countries. In ou r conversation I learned that only selected people were given the opportunity to receive an education in her native country of Mexico. She told me about the poor education system and the extreme poverty which debilitates Mexico. As a United States citizen, I am provided with a variety of options for education. People in Mexico must fight to obtain access to any education. This made me realize how truly fortunate I am.At the beginning of this volunteer experience, I walked in hopeful that I would gain some knowledge about the different careers that the medical field possesses, but I got so much more than that. I learned that community service is about making an impact in the lives of other members who share my community. At the end of volunteer services I have decided on a major, I am now striving to become a atomic number 101s assistant. In this position, not only do I get to care for patients, but I am presented with the opportunity to change their lives. Essay --

Throughout the twenty and into the twenty first century, the world has seen much academic and historical rumination on the subject of the Holocaust. Scholars have avidly debated both the motives of the perpetrators and the inaction of the Jewish race during the Holocaust. Both the offenders and the offended have been criticized in one way or a nonher for s variety of reasons. Daniel Jonah Goldhagen specifically looks at the perpetrators, the Germans, and argues that in fact, the Holocaust could only have taken place in Germany because of the German peoples great anti-Semitism.Goldhagen, a smart, cognitive and historically knowledgeable man strives to prove his theory in a three-pronged reasoning trident. He seeks, through his theory, to directly connect a countrys apparent anti-Semitism to the mass murder that directly succeeded it. The initial part of his argument is to look at the Police inner circles and the Einstadtzgruppen, and make the need that the men committing the mass murder in these military ranks were in fact what Goldhagen calls ordinary Germans. Goldhagen looks specifically at their economic and social backgrounds to make this claim. (Handout Police Battalion 101 Mens Deeds) The second part of Goldhagens thesis is to equate the ordinary Germans coordinating the death marches to the entire German universe Golhagen takes a focus group and decides that in fact it is a distinct match for the whole population of Germany something that I will cover later on. The troika prong of the trident is the conclusion in which Goldhagen says that all Germans were in fact, Nazis and bought into Nazi ideals of eugenics and mass murder. Essentially, to wrap up the trident of reasoning metaphor into one simple sentence ... ...explaining evil is still as difficult as preventing it, which is primarily the reason for so much debate on the subject of the Holocaust. Most of Goldhagens theories are intelligent, well articulate and backed up with evidence, but this doesnt mean that they are flaw-free. While on the surface his theory of the perpetrators being all ordinary Germans makes simplistic sense, it is slightly flawed. A, it is a generalization to group all ordinary Germans with a specific set of Germans who carried out the mass murder and B, Goldhagen comes to his conclusion and then looks for evidence to support his claim. commonly one finds specific evidence and then after piecing the evidence together one comes to a conclusion based on ones evidence, not the latter. Regardless, what Goldhagen offers in his thesis is a totally unique look at who was responsible for the Holocaust.

New Religious Movements & Religion

When studied, comp bed, and scrutinized, every religion though said to be basically corresponding in that all believe and worship a god/gods is actually different from each otherwise in m whatever respects. Before tackling diversities however, it is better to step up with similarities. Many people view all adherents of any religions share at the very least certain commonalities such as historical roots, practices/rituals, and doctrines. In other words, to be considered religious, one must be a follower of a certain form of ritual/practice prescribed by a die or guru, a worshiper or believer of a god whatever or whoever that god might be.When looked at the surface, this might be true. However, flavour closely and seeking out the nuances, one can find real diversities. For example, for a Jew and a Muslim, Christianity is a religion represented by Vatican and the pope as its representative. To the eyes of these two, no differences whatsoever are detected between a devout Roman C atholic and a Protestant and a Mormon. Of course when investigated, tag differences come to the surface and the initial seemingly unified similarities are gone. Proud Moment

If I had to describe a proud moment of mine it would have to be ab extinct the spend that just recently passed. In the summer I work as a lifeguard, a serious avocation that isnt always taken as serious as it should be, still when faced with danger most of the employees know what to do. Anyways, in the summer I worked as a lifeguard in the afternoons and evenings and in the morning, I would teach jr. children how to swim. I was their instructor and they were my students. We had a lot of fun, and I absolutely loved teaching little kids how to do something that I love to do myself. It was hot summer day and a lot of the camp children from the local boys and daughters club had just arrived. So all of the lifeguards on duty assumed their positions and conducted a swimming demonstrate for the camp kids to make sure they were capable of swimming in the deep end. Once the swim test was over we now let the public into the share area. A good sized group arrived at the pool, the group con sisted of a single lady and about 5-7 other kids.A few of the older ones in the group had been to the pool before so I knew what they were capable of doing in the water. But there was this one little lady friend that made her was to the deep array and I asked one of them older kids if she was able to swim in the deep end and they said yeah she was she can swim. So silly me, I believed them and go on on with my day surveying the rest of the pool. As I watched the kids climb out of the pool and go do jumps I noticed that the little girl was up next to jump.Remembering the conversation I had with the older kids, I turned to focus on something else, and the next thing I knew, the little girl was bobbing up and down, so I immediately kicked of my flip flops and jumped off of the guard chair and into the pool. I grabbed the little girl and pushed her to the wall. My adrenaline was so high, I didnt even notice that someone had pulled her out of the water after I brought her to the side. This would have to be my proudest moment not only because I was just doing my job as a lifeguard but I had saved a little girls life.I am pretty proud of myself now even though it is 4 months later. Not much has changed but I am proud that I am enrolled in higher education trying to make something out of myself and make a good living. I am also proud that I am having fun along the way. There really arent each differences between these two proud moments other than one was a paying job and it was my duty to help people and now it is my personal duty to perform what I want out of life.
